Trakm8 launches young driver campaign as national driver survey shows half of young drivers are struggling to afford insurance and 1 in 10 have stopped using their vehicle.

Trakm8, a leading supplier of connected car data and devices for UK insurers and brokers, has launched a Young Driver Campaign to help raise awareness of how increasing insurance costs is impacting their lives, careers, finances and independence, and to offer advice to help understand how to take control and even reduce insurance costs.

To launch this campaign Trakm8 commissioned a national young driver survey* to gain insights into how these rising insurance costs are impacting young drivers and their lives. The results showed that over half (55%) of drivers under 25 are struggling to afford to insure their vehicles and one in four (25%) are delaying buying a car because they can’t afford insurance.

The survey went on to show how unaffordable insurance is impacting all aspects of young driver’s lives with:

  • 30% stated that their education and careers have been impacted by being restricted to public transport.
  • One in ten (10%) say the cost of running their car has delayed them moving out of their family home.
  • 15% have had to ask parents for support to help pay for insurance.
  • One in five (20%) delaying getting a car until they are older.
  • One in ten (8%) have had to stop using their car as they can’t afford the insurance.

The Trakm8 Young Driver campaign will offer a voice for young drivers in the UK and the campaign aims to partner with organisations to help educate young drivers to better understand the benefits of telematics and how driving safely can make driving more affordable.

Due to the huge increase in insurance costs, 86% of young drivers would be willing to have their driving data monitored if it helped lower the cost of insurance and 93% believe insurers should offer lower costs if they can prove they are safe drivers. Furthermore, 90% believe the cost of insurance has increased so much that the government should intervene to help make cover affordable to young drivers in the UK.

Trakm8 offers an end-to-end telematics solution that incorporates a market-leading platform that utilises machine learning and AI technology with a UK-based manufacturing facility that delivers a range of award-winning hardware solutions. This gives insurers access to a range of big data insights including our portfolio of connected vehicle services and data analytics to give them a detailed understanding of customer driving habits and vehicle health, so they can manage policies and risk profiles on an individual basis.

Adam Gooch, Managing Director for Insurance at Trakm8, added, “The cost of car insurance is increasing for drivers across the UK and for young drivers who were already struggling with higher premiums this increase is making running a vehicle unaffordable for millions of younger people.

This is impacting education, careers and livelihoods for many under 25s and at Trakm8 we want to help raise awareness of this issue and help educate young drivers and help make insurance more affordable.

Telematics policies such as PAYD or UBI solutions allow drivers to benefit from much more accurate premiums and reward them for positive driving behaviour. By offering a PAYD or UBI policy insurers can offer consumers fairer value and more accurate premiums.

Our comprehensive end-to-end insurance telematics solutions are designed to give insurers an easy route to market to offer their customers a leading PAYD or UBI policy.”

The Trakm8 team are thrilled to announce we won the Innovation Award at last week’s WhatVan Awards ceremony. The WhatVan Awards are recognised as one of the most prestigious independent accolades in the UK’s light commercial vehicle industry.

The What Van? Awards provide recognition for brands, businesses and organisations that have reached the pinnacle of their fields. What Van? assembles an experienced panel of independent judges from across the LCV sector to evaluate the entrants.

The categories evolve from year to year to ensure WhatVan recognise changing trends and developments spanning the breadth of the light commercial vehicle industry. Each year the organisers carefully select an expert panel of judges with decades of combined experience in the light commercial vehicle sector.

The team are delighted to scoop this top accolade especially up against such a formidable group of finalists. As the winner was voted for by experts in industry this was a further acknowledgement that the Trakm8 solutions are well regarded across the industry.

Trakm8’s entry for the innovation award was focused on our AI Optimisation solution for last mile delivery. Trakm8 created flexible, scalable algorithms for last mile delivery optimisation. These algorithms enable customers to book delivery slots and create highly efficient schedule planning for delivery drivers.

Trakm8’s AI Optimisation solution for last-mile delivery offers a multitude of advantages to retailers. Notably, it plays a pivotal role in reducing fleet costs, minimising last-mile delivery failures, and ensuring the timely fulfilment of customer delivery expectations. Additionally, it enhances the online slot booking experience for customers, contributing to increased satisfaction. The solution goes beyond economic benefits, actively decreasing harmful environmental emissions and fostering a safer and more satisfying work environment for drivers. What sets Trakm8 apart is its seamless integration into various commercial systems, websites, and backend operations.

To illustrate the tangible impact of Trakm8’s AI Optimisation, consider the case of a Major UK Food Retailer. The implementation of this technology has resulted in projected annual savings of £15 million, attributed to reductions in fuel and labour costs. Vans now cover between 170 thousand and 200 thousand fewer miles per week, showcasing a 12% improvement in miles per drop. This not only leads to substantial savings in emissions, fuel, and overall operational costs but also allows for an increased order volume without the need for additional shifts or vans. Furthermore, the implementation of Trakm8’s solution enabled the retailer to release Christmas delivery slots five weeks earlier and extend delivery slot booking windows from 2 to 4 weeks. These remarkable results underscore the transformative impact of Trakm8’s AI Optimisation on last-mile delivery.

Nick Guise, Marketing Manager at Trakm8 said: “We are thrilled our AI Optimisation Last Mile Delivery Solution has been honoured with the prestigious Innovation award at this year’s What Van? Awards. This achievement serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work of our exceptional team, who consistently strive to position our solutions at the forefront of the market with innovation as our guiding principle. In a highly competitive field featuring outstanding entries from other leading companies, winning this award was no small feat. We are genuinely delighted to be recognised as the ultimate winner and are proud to stand out among the best in the industry.”

In support of this year’s Road Safety Week, Trakm8 is thrilled to announce the return of their quest to find the Road Safety Hero of 2023. Brake’s Road Safety Week, taking place from November 19th to November 25th, is focused on addressing one of the most pressing issues on our roads: speeding.

Under the banner “Let’s talk about speed,” the theme of this year’s Road Safety Week, the UK’s largest annual road safety initiative, seeks to spark a crucial conversation about why speeding is still regarded as acceptable in some contexts, the consequences of such behaviour, and the compelling case for reducing speed to save lives.

Every day, five people lose their lives on the roads. The pressing question remains: Why do we tolerate speeding? Trakm8, a leader in fleet technology solutions, is determined to honour drivers who go above and beyond to ensure the safety of Britain’s roads.

Trakm8 is extending an open invitation to all UK fleet managers, inviting them to nominate a deserving driver from their fleet as the Road Safety Hero 2023. We are particularly interested in recognising exceptional drivers who prioritise road safety, with a keen focus on their speeding records. We intend to reward and give the recognition that such dedicated drivers truly deserve.

Nomination is a easy, fleet managers can simply click on the following link: https://get.trakm8.com/road-safety-hero/ and nominate their road safety hero from their fleet. All entries will be diligently reviewed by Trakm8, with the top five entries to be revealed at the start of Road Safety Week through our social media platforms. The ultimate winner will be unveiled during “Fleet Friday” at the week’s end. Deadline for entries will be Friday 17th November at 5pm.

The victorious driver will receive a well-earned prize: a Weekend Two-Night Luxury Lake District Break for Two at The Langdale Hotel, alongside the esteemed title of Road Safety Hero, and a certificate of recognition.

Last year’s inaugural winner was a dedicated E.ON smart meter technician, hailed for her unwavering commitment to promoting road safety within her immediate team and across E.ON’s extensive workforce.

Nick Guise, Group Marketing Manager at Trakm8, commented, “This year’s Road Safety Week theme, ‘Let’s talk about speed,’ inspires us to find a driver who passionately embodies this idea, actively contributing to road safety and serving as a beacon for their fellow fleet drivers. In the UK, five people succumb to road fatalities daily, and as a fleet technology provider, we see it as our mission to bolster road safety through education and monitoring driver behaviour, particularly regarding speeding. We are excited to relaunch the Road Safety Hero search, an excellent opportunity to celebrate some of the finest fleet drivers in Britain while championing road safety nationwide.”

Configurable for individual needs, basically I can make a whole new perspective for myself designing for my own individual need.

Retrieving footage from the portal is easy, thanks to its user-friendly and self-explanatory interface. Overall, the portal has transformed our experience and is more interactive and user-friendly than any other system I’ve encountered in the past.
